KSBW Field Trip

In the beginning, we entered the lobby. It was small, but it was nice comfort. Then our tour person, Jaime took and explain to us mostly every room and what people do inside of the rooms. She was very polite. Then, she took us in the old production room and the new production room, which we stayed in and stayed in silent while two wonderful workers, Brittany Nielsen and Art Jarrett were on air and doing their job. Nielsen would explain each news and then have someone other news anchor take her place in order to explain their part or whatever they are and explain more, which I thought it was interesting. That's called a "package" (thought it was a fitting name lol). It was also cool that after Jarrett has done his job of telling us the weather, his job is to fill up half of the job with something that fits with the news. He says at first, he was so worried that he wouldn't know what to say, but from time through time, he figured out what to do and not worried anymore. And then the rest of the time, we would have fun with the green screen and talk with the news reporters how they got their position. After that, we went to In-N-Out and some of us went to McDonalds.
We asked questions to some workers and the news reporters. We asked our tour person, Jaime, about her background and how did she got in to this field. She said that she's from LA and she went to UCLA and majored in Film and Digital Media. Then she saw things "politically" and 'kind of' wanted to pursue that, so she was looking for jobs and applied at KSBW and got in. We also asked her of what does her average day or week look like in her job. She answered that it always has to be on schedule due to news being on air so nothing has to be messed up. She's in the marketing team so she looks at the demographics and found out that most people like local stories and crime stories. Other information: producers are people who make stories and most of the photographers are in "Behind the scenes". Also, the skill you most need in this industry is observation. We talked to news anchor, Brittany Nielsen, of her background and how did she got in the field. She says that in her high school, she was voted for "Most shyest". Then, she saw someone that was doing related to the news and she thought it was cool and she also had an interest in film. When she applied, she started as an intern. She mentions that it took her so long to get where she is right now, but while she was getting to the top, she learned a lot of experience and that's what got her where she is right now. That meant she worked overtime, during the weekends, and some family events that she had to miss. We asked her of what other skills that can be included to the news industry. She says that you can bring any skill and gear it to the news industry. Overall, the news industry is cool and interesting.
